The perspective
The view in axonometric perspective gives an infinite quality to my drawings, they can be extended.
They are planned to be seen as from a plane, the city axes can be guessed, some interesting elements can be located. But they are also made to be more closely observed, in their most hidden details.
Architectural specificities, most of the time unsuspected interiors can thus be discovered. There are two approaches: above the walls and beyond the façades.
Some drawings accentuate the geometry. The city is seen like an abstract composition playing with lines, shapes, balance and contrast.
Sizes
The sizes also illustrate that diversity. The small ones (23cm/23cm) develop an architectural theme. Panoramas show the development of the old city centre to its contemporary suburbs and the very big formats (160cm/100cm) can be seen from a distance or very closely.
Drawing technique
The necessary tools are a white page, a pencil, a rubber and a 0.2 rotring
The black and white technique reinforces the sensation of double reading. Seen from a distance, rivers, streets and main squares appear in grey uniformity. Coming nearer and nearer, the details of the façades, the vegetation, reveal themselves, it’s like engraved cities of the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries. Preparatory crayonnés are present, every house, every street has been thought and drawn on the ground and it seems important to keep a trace, the crayonné adds life and takes part in the construction of the drawing.
A game, an invitation to a walk
I play; I invent or re-invent stories, plans, ancient and contemporary architectures. I associate the ones with the others; I link elements or separate them with avenues, rivers. I invent functions for the buildings; I create busy areas, peaceful districts, schools, gardens. Visitors have the opportunity to make this urban structure theirs and to imagine a reality for it. Children feel comfortable in my cities, they choose their house, they settle as they like.
